LA | 02 - Downtown
Hopped onto LA's public transit to give it a try and spend my first day wandering around the downtown core.
This beautiful view greeted me at Norwalk station.
LA's metro system is comprised of 4 LRT lines and 2 subway lines. Somewhat misleadingly, two express bus lines are shown on the system map as well, which was a total let down, though I guess that can be forgiven because they really are pretty fast.
I got quite a kick hearing the impressions of LA natives that had never taken the public transit before, who seem to believe it's a treacherous and danger-ridden place. Nobody really takes the transit here so it's not even as packed as I'm used to.
Scary.
Light sculptures at Pershing Square Station.
Yes. More cities need this, fire escapes are so nice.
Would've been perfect with one less Subway sign.
You've got to see this interior for yourself. Trying to capture it in photos alone is a disservice. I tried so long to get a good representative shot, but it was too challenging for me.
Across the street.
The neon signs in the Grand Central Market are just great.
Angel’s Flight wasn’t open when I walked by (I found out after it was closed due to safety concerns) which unfortunately meant a long walk up several flights of stairs.
Couldn't wait to visit this later in the week.
I really dig how clean the front of these school buses are. Toronto bus designers (actually all bus designers), take note.
Went full tourist when I saw this.
I did not know the outer facade was open to the public to just walk around and explore, I'm glad I took a random staircase up looking for the gardens.
I guess nothing is perfect.
The Blue Ribbon garden is accessible through stairs south of the concert hall, but the lack of any signage meant I bumped into a lot of people in the same predicament as me, wandering around aimlessly until we found it.
This led to a dead end.
Getting MoMA flashbacks with these chairs.
Looking down from Angel's Flight.
My feet sorely needed a break so I wrapped up my short trek downtown with some hipster juice at Press Brother's Juicery.
