Finally, the day of the con.

Good morning Chicago.

The front lobby had several walls set up to show a collection of each speaker's sketch pages.

The first workshop I went to was Joey Zeledón's. I had backed his Touchy/Feely book on Kickstarter and I was excited to see him speak in person about it.

Touchy/Feely is a design methodology that uses physical interactions and their corresponding emotional responses to influence decisions as part of your design process.

Next up was a workshop from Dominic Motante. He showed how relatively low fidelity, but clearly communicative thumbnail sketches could help you come up with a lot of ideas in a short about of time.

After lunch I got to take a look through a bunch of sketchbooks the speakers had put out on display. Here are some from Nick Baker.

And some authentic Reid Schlegel originals. It was cool to see his actual sketches up close.

One of the reasons I came to the con was also so I could pick up a copy of Touchy/Feely in person - saving me the $25 shipping it would take to get it to Canada.

A few of us got to go up near the end to try out Gravity Sketch.

Creative Session's workshop was the next one I went to. They walked us through their own design process with a case study and the steps they take to avoid running into a creative block.

Flexing so hard.

And finally, for the last workshop I went to Reid's. He showed us how you can jump back and forth between digital sketching and CAD to speed up the design process. He also fielded a lot of questions while he did his demo, so it became more of a general Q&A session as it went on.

He worked on redesigning the exterior of the Canary Flex.

Technical difficulties with projectors - a quintessential part of the human condition.

When I got to the auditorium for the closing remarks, I was lucky enough to catch the tail end of a live Minor Details podcast session ft. Hector Silva.

Advanced Design Sketching unveiled community awards for designers.

The first ever recipient was of course, Spencer Nugent.

Thank you Hector and the ADS team - couldn't have asked for a better con.

To end of the day, my friends took me to Chinatown so I could try Bonchon for the first time.

Absolutely delicious, the spicy wings were definitely the soy garlic ones. I'm going to try looking for these back in Toronto.
