Sketches 08 - Baby Thermometers
Starting my process like usual with simple form explorations and studies of existing baby thermometers.
An idea for a sleek and basic thermometer with just one readout and a flexible hinge.
Of course, the flexible hinge is Arc Touch mouse inspired. The flexing of the hinge controls whether or not the thermometer is on or off.
The concept with an updated hinge and a little carrying case for travel.
Where else can a thermometer be hidden? I didn't end up finding any interesting leads with this exploration.
Much like my phone chargers, and the initial concept I had for an updated thermometer, I started to wonder what it would be like for the thermometer to be flexible. This would mimic the shape of the hand and be a more natural, and comfortable experience for the baby. This, with the reminder from my own parents that they used analog temperature strips when I was a baby led me to create a new, electronic version of this interaction. It would have two handles to hold onto on either side and an indicator LED to quickly tell if the temperature is normal or requires more attention.
