Humber Grad Show 2017

April 30, 2017 by SingYu Lam in Event

A bit over a week ago I had the pleasure of seeing the work from this year's Humber graduates. The Design Exchange is certainly an impressive venue for such an occasion.

Before I headed over in earnest to see the thesis projects, I took a quick look around these bus shelter projects, which were made by freshmen.

This "bent wood" is actually styrene that's simply been coloured with a few Copic markers... absolutely ingenious. Props to these first years.

Definitely more transportation projects to see here than at OCAD. I also don't think I saw a single furniture project.

The level of quality in the models here is astounding as well.

I spy the Tesla font in use.

This pallet truck was one of the best models I've seen. Fully "functional" and any one watching could understand the concept within seconds. Exactly what a good model needs to do.

I'm still not sold on the practicality of this thing but man, you've got to give it to this guy for making something so cool. It's a robotic police mount. Imagine seeing an officer riding this next to a protest. Or worse, having it chase you down without even an officer on its back. The future is terrifying.

Blade feet here again. They're efficient for running but not for staying still. I wonder why they showed up twice at the show.

Calling it a night.
